HISTORY OF THE FULGARO FAMILY 1983
Submitted by Mary Phyllis Fulgaro Paulo and Domenica Virgilio Kavanaugh
MARY MICHAEL LIMOSANI FULGARO was born in the town of San Marco in Lamis, Provincia di Foggia, Italy. Her mother Rosalia Soccio, was a school teacher; her father, Angelo Limosani, was a farmer. Her grandmother, Rachael Mimma, was from Patoranna, Abruzzi.

LOUIS JOSEPH FULGARO also came from San Marco in Lamis. His mother, Antoinette Battista, and his father, Michael, both died when he was fourteen years of age. He was raised by an aunt and worked as a farmer. In 1905, Louis immigrated to the United States; one year later, he sent for Mary and their six-year old son, Anthony. They left their first child, a stillborn son named, Angelo, behind in Italy.

Louis worked for Manufacturers Junction Railroad, a subsidiary of Western Electric Railroad Company. He was disabled due to an accident caused by an inebriated engineer's miscalculation, resulting in the loss of one leg. He died at sixty-two years of age of a heart attack, which was witnessed by his sixteen year old daughter, Lucille, in their home on Marshfield Avenue. Mary Michael was a homemaker and mother: she had thirteen pregnancies which produced six surviving children.

They settled in the predominantly Italian neighborhoods on the West side of Chicago. They rented a flat on Forquer Street until they were able to save for a substantial down payment on their first home. This was located at 838 South Marshfield, Chicago. Their family was raised at that address. A two-flat at 3041 West Arthington Street was then purchased where Mary lived her later years and subsequently died there. Both residences were home to many of their now adult children and grand-children. Mary passed away at the age of seventy-eight years of age of stomach cancer.

The children born of this marriage were: Angelo, Anthony, Antonette, Michael, Rose, Philomena, Lucille and Angelina.

Inscription in a bible given to the Limosani Family in May of 1958

This letter was written on the back of this picture of Philly, and it was written by her sister, Rose, to her Aunt Vittoria (grandfather's sister) in the old country. Circa 1930. It simply says: "This photo is my sister Filomena. She is taller than me. I am a little shorter and a bit more firmer. Many greetings to your family, Your niece, Rosi." This picture turned up in the possession of Michele Limosani of Milan, Italy. Michele is the son of Giuseppe Limosani, grandfather's brother, and is grandfather's nephew. This shows the relationship between the Limosani family in America and the Limosani family in Italy.
