UPDATE FROM NANCY MELITO REGARDING THE MICHAEL FRANCIS LIMOSANI FAMILY

February 20, 2006

Hi Mark:
Hope all is well.
Have some additional information about Michael's family:

Filippo Limosani was born ca. 1741 in San Marco in Lamis. He passed away on November 5, 1817. He was 76 years old and a butcher at the time of his death. He had married Anastasia Tolfo who also was born and died in San Marco in Lamis. Her death occurred sometime before 1840.

Filippo's father was Antonio Limosani who probably was born and died in San Marco. So, as you can see, we have an Antonio in the family also. Unfortunately this is all of the information about him that we were able to find.

Short of going to Italy to research further, I guess that's it!

We previously sent information regarding my grandson's family. Have found additional information and generations which verifies that the family originally came from San Marco in Lamis. Here is what we have to date.

1. Filippo Limosani was born in San Marco in Lamis and died sometime before 1840 in San Marco in Lamis

2. His son, Francesco Paolo, was born in San Marco in Lamis circa 1790 and he married Angela Placentino. They eventually moved to San Giovanni Rotondo. Francesco was a butcher.

3. His son, Nicola, was born in 1811 in San Marco in Lamis and had moved with his mother and father to San Giovanni Rotondo where he married Giovanni Maria de Nittis. Nicola was a butcher.

4. His son, Francesco Paolo Limosani, was born in 1855 in San Giovanni Rotondo and married Rachele Fina They had at least three children: Maria Giovanna, Nicola, and Filomena. Francesco was a shepherd.

5. Francesco's son, Nicola, was born in 1891 and married Alice (maiden name unknown). As previously mentioned Nicola was my grandson Michael's great grandfather.

We are sure there is a tie-in with the San Marco families listed on the board. Our besst wishes to all and we will stay in touch.

I've started some research for my grandson, Michael Francis Limosani and came across the very nice website that you have set up. So thought I would send along the information that I have to date.

Michael's great grandfather was Nicola Limosani. His social security record.indicates that his father's name was Francesco, his mother was Rockela Fine. (Perhaps "Rachele" but haven't found any other reference to her to confirm one way or the other.)

Nicola was born in San Giovanni Rotondo, Italy, was a rubber worker at the Boston Woven Hose & Rubber Co. in Cambridge, Massachusetts and was living at 385 Steven St. in Revere at the time. I have run across three different birthdates for him. On this document it is December 22, 1891. On Ancestry.com, it is listed as December 17, 1891 on some other record (perhaps his Death Certificate which I don't have a copy of) On his military registration card, filed on June 5, 1917, it is listed as February 25, 1891.

Could not locate him or any other identifiable family member in the Ellis Island ship manifests that are on line.

Information in the 1930 Census:
Limosani (incorrectly spelled LiMosann) all living at 385 Steven St. in Revere, Massachusetts.

Nicholas: (Head of household) 38 years old was born in Italy, came to U.S. in 1909, workingl at a rubber mill as listed on social security record and he is not a citizen.

Alice: (wife) 36 years old and came to U.S. in 1912.

All of the children were born in Massachusetts:
Frank (son) age 11; John (son, middle name Nicholas, and Michael's grandfather) age 9; Angelo (son), age 8, Felix (son - believe this name should be Philip) age 6, Anthony (son) and Concetta (daughter) age 1.

John Nicholas married Mary DeMattia and they had two children: John Nicolas Jr. (Michael's father) and Judy. Michael's father married my daughter, also Nancy Melito.

Subject: Carolina Limosani

Mr. Traversino:

I live in the Cincinnati, Ohio area. My brother found your web site a few days ago.

My grandfather was Michele Capelli and my grandmother was Carolina Limosani (spelled Limoseni at Ellis Island and Lemose on my Father's birth certificate). My father passed away almost 20 years ago. His given name was Luigi Capelli, but his name ended up as Louis Capella. My grandfather came to the US in 1905 and traveled with a Pietro Limosani. They both were from San Marcos. I am certain they were traveling together, because on the ship's manifest they list the same person as their USA contact. My uncle Domenico came with Carolina Limosani in 1912. Their USA contact on the ship manifest was my grandfather Michele. Domenico later returned to the San Marcos/Fogia (Foggia) area and stayed there the rest of his life. From what I understand is that Carolina passed when my father was 5 or 6. That means she died 1922-1923. She is buried in Hamilton, Ohio, but I have not seen her grave in years.

What may be of interest to you is a picture of my grandmother, which I have attached. In addition, we have a picture with the hand written name of Luigi Fulgaro. The writing is on the back of the picture. I have attached this picture, also. Hopefully, both pictures will make it through my email service. If not, I will send them in two emails. My father said he was named after Luigi.

My gut feeling is that my grandmother is related to the Limosani family on your web site. Hopefully you may be able to provide some information to us.

Mark
My name is Gabriel Nardella of Akron ,Ohio. Saw the web site Limosani , was interesting to me since my roots are San Marco in Lamis.
I have visited San Marco four times. I'm 81 years old.My family tree starts with Angelo Sassano and wife Rachela Tiscia. The daughters married a Contessa,Centola,Nardella, and Donataccio. I have about 250 names on our family tree ! - I have learned ,during the process, that in order to match up the kinship ,you need to know the family 'sopranome' which is nickname. For instance Nardella is "sfilasarda"-- Sassano is "ciacione' -Limosani of our tree is 'zaccaricotta'.

You may see our Nardella web site at http://home.neo.rr.com/nardellaweb/ www.home.neob/

the very first photo is of my parents Emanuele and Teresa Battista Nardella. IT was developed by my neice Judy Nardella Knight.
Ciao
