Maria Cristoforo

Maria Cristoforo is grandma Limosani's older sister. She was about ten years older and a bit on the serious side. She was also very religious and at 16 entered a convent for one year with hopes of
becoming a nun. However, that proved too much for her and she returned home.
She went to dressmaking school and taught our grandmother seamstress work. Both were very astute at sewing and Maria made her living at it in the old country and here in America.

LUIGI VOCALE -MARIA CRISTOFORO VOCALE

DR. ANTONIO VOCALE

Zia Maria (as she was called, was our grandaunt), married Luigi Vocale in San Marco, Italy. Luigi came to America and worked on the railroad in Montana with grandpa Limosani. However, Zia Maria stayed in Italy because their son, Antonio, was in college and was planning on becoming a doctor. Zii Luigi sent money to the old country to help with his son's tuition. Luigi remained in Montana for many years while Zia Maria stayed in Italy. However, word got back to Zia Maria that Luigi had strayed a bit and she came to America in 1928. They live happily and worked very hard to get the money to continue Antonio's tuition at medical schoo in Italy.

While in America, she would go to church all the time and pray for work so she could send money to her son. Luigi worked as a carpenter and died at 51 in 1932. Zia Maria passed away in the late 1930s and, unfortunately, didn't live to see her son become a doctor. However, by the time Antonio became a doctor, Italy was at war and was drafted and served in the Italian army during World War II. World War II caused much heartache between the Italians here in America and their relatives in Italy. Dr. Vocale spent much of the war in Switzerland which is a bit confusing but that's how it was related to Rosalie Limosani Traversino.

After the war, Antonio Vocale wanted to come to America. Mary Tancredi, a school teacher and a friend of the family, was instrumental in putting the paper work together to get him to America. In time, Antonio married Mary Tancredi. Sadly, she passed away few years after their marriage and he died of a heart attack at the age of 52. He also played the guitar and the guitar is still in the family.
